Best Selling VR Steam Games – January 2017

The Year Of VR

Here are the current best selling VR games on the Steam store for January 2017.

  1. Resident Evil 7 – Biohazard (Standard Edition)
  2. Resident Evil 7 – Biohazard (Deluxe Edition)

Set to release in two days as of writing this article, Resident Evil 7 – Biohazard is the latest game in the long running horror series which features virtual reality support. It also mixes the gameplay up by having the players take the first-person perspective rather than the third-person that was seen in the previous Resident Evil games.  The game is set after the events that took place in Resident Evil 6 in modern day, rural America.

The Resident Evil 7 – Biohazard (Deluxe Edition) includes:

* Banned Footage Vol. 1: two unique scenarios and an extra bonus mode
* Banned Footage Vol. 2: two unique scenarios and an extra bonus mode
* Additional Episode

Keep an eye out for our upcoming review for Resident Evil 7 – Biohazard.

The game has received very positive reviews and won the Best 2016 Music/Rhythm IGN Japan award and Paste Magazine 2016 game of the year award.

5. Onward

Onward is an early access game that was released back in August, 2016 so it is still a work in progress but it has been popular with VR gamers. The game supports the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift vr headsets. The game is a realistic military simulator multiplayer FPS with no hand-holding at all. Crosshairs and HUDs are gone and you are given a limited amount of respawns.

Vanishing Realms is a RPG game designed with a virtual reality experience as the main focus, released back in April 2016 and supports the HTC Vive VR headset. The game has enjoyed positive feedback, also winning the 2016 UploadVR Best Action/Adventure game. Vanishing Realms is an early access game that offers 2 chapters with roughly about 4 hours of gameplay with hopefully more coming in the near future.

7. Audioshield

Audioshield supports the HTC Vive VR headset where players have to block the beats of the music as they come flying towards them. Beats are broken up into two colours, red for one arm and blue for the other and you have to hit those before they hit you. You can use any song of your choice and actually makes for great exercise and hand-eye-coordination practice.

Surgeon Simulator: Experience Reality supports the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift VR headsets where players take the position of being a surgeon in the ER at a hospital. The game has a dark sense of humour as you fight for Bob’s life (the patient.)

Below is a clever video operating on President, Donald Trump in VR.

9. Arizona Sunshine

We covered Arizona Sunshine recently and it’s one of the best VR games available. The game supports the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift VR headsets where players fight off waves of zombies. The game is your usual zombie-genre experience where players fight to fend off waves of incoming undead. There’s a roughly 4 hour long campaign on offer but there’s not much in the way of story-telling. On the plus side the protagonist makes the odd jokes here and there which is a nice change from a lot of shooters where the main character is either completely voiceless, or just makes grunting noises and complains.

    • OS: Windows 10
    • Processor: Intel Core i7 6700K equivalent or greater

    • Additional Notes: VR Headset required, 2x USB 3.0 ports

      10. QuiVr

QuiVr is another early access VR game available on the Steam Store. The game supports the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift VR headsets where players are armed with a bow and arrow and fight to protect their keep from enemies approaching. The game was recently released back in December, 2016 and has enjoyed great review scores and is regularly being worked on with the last patch being released yesterday to iron out some bugs.

QuiVr features

  • Best in class bow and arrow physics: researched with and modelled after real life counterparts
  • Drop-in/Drop-out multiplayer
  • Global, weekly leaderboards
  • Fluid Difficulty System to provide challenge for all skill levels
  • Customizable Armor: Change your appearance and abilities to help destroy the encroaching hordes (and look awesome doing it)
  • Personal and competitive target practice
  • Unique, expressive cast of enemies
  • Spectator mode with cinematic camera

    • OS: Windows 10
    • Processor: Intel i7-4770 3.4 GHz
    • Memory: 16 GB RAM
